Term 2 Lessons

I apologise for the late post, probably because I have completely forgotten about my ePortfolio.

For Term 2, we basically covered the topics on Light and more of chemistry was tested in the test. Firstly, I feel that light is something that requires less memorising than chemistry, but requires much technical expertise, especially when it comes to drawing light rays. We learned much about the laws of reflection, refraction and the application of light. However, due to my hectic competition schedule in Term 2, I found it quite difficult for me to cope with the topics.

Basically, light came along quite simple initially, sub topics like reflection in a plane mirror was fine to me and I breezed through them quite easily. However, when the drawing section came along, I find myself struggling to draw accurate diagrams and apply the knowledge I have gained on drawing my light diagrams well. Personally, I find it especially troublesome when we have to draw the normal, calculate accurate angles etc. Perhaps that was why I never did excel in light, because I did not enjoy learning the subject and I think that this is an important aspect which will determine whether we excel on the subject itself.

There after, we headed on to refraction. Unfortunately, I missed the whole lesson due to competition and was struggling to understand it the day after. However, the concepts taught was relatively straightfoward, but life could not be as straightforward, there came the drawing part. We were required to draw the light rays in an optical fibre and I was always spending long amount of time drawing them.

In conclusion, I feel that light is a topic which requires a student to enjoy learning it for the student to excel in it, otherwise, you will probably end up like me struggling to memorise concepts and digest light diagrams. Fortunately for me, my interest for light is currently growing and hopefully, I will be able to fully enjoy the joy of learning light.
