Eye Drops

Eye Drops can be used to treat eyes experiencing, dryness, redness, itching, allergies, soreness, swelling, eye discharge and infection. But of course, the content of the eye drop varies from case to case.

For eyes experiencing dryness, OTC (Eye drops that do not require a doctor's prescription) lubricating eye drops can be used to treat it. Everyone will experience this problem, as the occurrence of eye dryness can be often. It is caused by our body's fatigue, long hours of facing the computer and reading books, all of which people would do in their lives. This eye drop work by adding various tear elements which are already in our eyes, to allow them to function better and solve the eye dryness problem.

As for eyes experiencing redness, drops called vaso constrictors can be used, with the most commonly used one being phenylephrine. This drop causes the blood vessels, which are causing the redness, to constrict. As this happens, the blood vessels narrow and are harder to be seen, thus making the eye whiter.

For eyes experiencing itchiness, which is almost always a sign for an allergy attack, anti-allergy medications can be used to decrease the effects of histamine, a chemical produced by the eye tissues during an allergy reaction which causes itchy, watery, red eyes. Livostin, Patanol, Alomide, and Cromolyn are chemicals that are widely used for this purpose.

For eyes experiencing soreness, swelling or discharge, lubricating eye drops can be used, for the main cause of these problems is usually dry eyes. However, the solution differs when the cause of these problems lies in the infection of the eye.

If eyes were to experience infections, anti-inflammatories can be used to reduce eye inflammation. They contain corticosteroids which are powerful products that can be used to treat a wide range of eye problems. Antibiotics may come in handy as well. Although there is no one antibiotic that can be solely used to treat all kinds of infections, common antibiotics used include sulfacetamide, erythromycin, gentamicin, ofloxacin, tobramycin, and ciprofloxacin. Antiviral eye drops containing triflurthymidine is primarily used to treat herpes virus eye infections.

All of us experience eye problems in our lives in one way or another, but we have to understand what kind of problems are we actually facing and how eye drops, which are products that are already so common in our lives, are used to treat our eye problems.

I sincerely hope all of you reading this post have learnt about the powers of an eye drop, so as we use one next time, let us be grateful that such products can be made to help treat our eye problems.
