Term 3 Test Reflection

Term 3 Test was something I did not expect a lot from. Actually, when I realised that the test included optical lenses and ecology, I was very worried. Ecology, which is a part of biology, was something I disliked, for it was something that was very broad, unlike chemistry and physics, which I could understand quite easily. As such, I was afraid that my dislike for it would obstruct my learning of ecology, and well, it did.

For me, optics was quite simple. The main crux was the memorisation of the properties of different optic lenses. Then, the difficult part was the application of it on real life objects. Fortunately, many practices helped me in mastering this topic, or so I believe.

However, ecology on the other hand, was a topic that I had to force myself to read on. Then, I had a difficult time trying to memorise the abiotic and biotic factors of the environment and why conservation was important. Although this was so, I cannot deny that I learned much from that topic, and it also had a postive impact on myself, learning that actually medicine is largely obtained from the wild.

When it came to the test, I steadied myself and dived straight into the paper. But ecology questions had to pop up and stun me every now and then, and I flustered. I just put answers that felt right to me, according to the knowledge that I have learnt. As for the questions regarding optics, I did not experience much difficulty.

But, when the results came back, I realised that I actually had errors on my optic as well, and they were careless mistakes.

The thing about careless mistakes is that they irritate you so much because you really know how to answer that question but got it wrong instead. And that was what I felt. Although there were errors on the ecology questions as well, I genuinely had no clue how to answer them.

This test made me realise that it is indeed important to put both topics in a test on equal priorities and pay close attention to both, because knowing a topic well does not guarantee scoring well for it in a test.

*Gladly, it also opened up a new perspective towards biology for me. I can now head towards learning biology more with a more open mind, and embrace all the three different topics of Science.*
